The cave of Diros consists of other caves: the cave of Glyfada, Alepotrypa and Katafygi cave, each one adds unique value to the landscape. The exploration of the cave began in 1949 by a couple, John and Anna Petrocheilos, who were working at the Greek Speleological Company. Inside the cave the visitor can see stalactites and stalagmites. No matter how many times you visit the caves Diros, you will never get enough for this gift if the nature. A 45 minutes’ walk will leave you speechless. The cave Vlyxada or Glyfada is located in the Bay of Diros Mani, on the west coast of the Laconian peninsula. Vlyxada consists of land and underwater sections and features with rich stone decoration. Most of the cave is covered with sea water so you can go through most of it by boat. The water level inside varies, depending on the weather conditions outside the cave. Within the cave have been identified bones hippos, panthers, hyenas, lions, deer and other animals and prehistoric pottery items. The tour inside the cave takes place with boats.
